At the end of May 2012, the RDA is organizing the Innovation School – a three-day training event (15–17 May) consisting of seminars for 40 SME managers and members of business incubators and clusters. The Innovation School follows on from previous programmes but reaches beyond the borders of the Region.

The RDA has become a partner in another international project run as part of the INTERREG IVC programme to set up and maintain cooperation among European regions. RDA Director Petra Chovanioková explains: “The new project, known as ETTBio, focuses on sharing experience in biotechnology research, development and practical application. It forms part of the Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS), which we coordinate on behalf of the Region – and we are the only Czech partner in the project.” The main goal of the RIS is to help in the transfer of innovations into practical applications; without this crucial fi nal step, no business can achieve competitiveness.

A total of 28 investors have responded to a survey coordinated by the RDA and distributed to 50 foreignowned companies at 17 industrial zones throughout the M-S Region. Overall, the foreign investors proved to be satisfied with conditions in he Region.

The new version of the 3D map will provide plenty of inspiration for tourists and visitors to the Region, whether they enjoy outdoor pursuits, sightseeing, sports, or just great family days out. The RDA has updated the database of tourist routes, which now includes several new educational routes focusing on the Region’s industrial heritage, military history and natural beauty. Visitors can admire historic buildings or learn more about the Region’s dramatic history.

13 new regular flights will be introduced from Ostrava within the course of this summer by the only czech low cost airline operated by Travel Service under the brand SmartWings.
These regular flights will take passengers to the French metropolis of Paris and 12 other popular destinations in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Moravian-Silesian Region and two Polish regions – the Silesian and Opole Voivodeships – have drawn up a strategy for systematic cooperation in the period 2010-2020. This is a foundation document outlining forms of cooperation among these neighbouring regions, which together make up the TRITIA EGTC (European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation) in accordance with the EGTC Regulation of the European Parliament and the EU Council. The strategy analyzes individual aspects of cross-border cooperation, identifies suitable themes for development to benefit all three regions, formulates goals and proposes projects to be managed jointly by the partner regions.

“We want a good quality of life – we support a good quality of life.” These slogans became the defining mottos of the 5th annual Corporate Social Responsibility New Year Concert and Gala Evening. Children are our future, so we owe it to them to do everything in our power to improve quality of life – for ourselves and others. That is the core mission of the new Institute for Social Responsibility – an organization which will act as a watchdog of quality in all areas.

On 15 and 16 November the programme Monitoring Committee met in Třinec. New projects were selected for funding, and allocations of funds to individual areas of support were adjusted. One of the biggest changes is in area 2.2 – Support for Tourism Development – which was suspended pending the Třinec session.

This year’s ITF Slovakiatour tourism fair, held in January in the Slovak capital Bratislava, included a presentation of awards for the best articles on the M-S Region. The prizes were presented by Jiří Vzientek, Deputy Regional President, and Nora Gill, Head of Czech Tourism’s Bratislava branch.
